The Presentation is a five-to-ten-minute presentation where each business owner or owners must be present to pitch their Porch Improvement ideas to the judges. Businesses are welcome to use PowerPoint presentations, printed materials, or other visual aids. Please notify Edwards County Economic Development in advance regarding any presentation needs so staff can be prepared.
Guidelines & information
 During the Pitch Your Porch event, applicants will be asked to briefly present their project to the judging panel. Presentations should include an overview of the business, the current condition of the building exterior, a clear explanation of the proposed improvements and a budget for this project. Applicants should explain how the project will enhance curb appeal, attract customers, and positively impact the surrounding business district.  
  • A maximum of 10 minutes will be allowed for each business presentation.
  • There is no minimum or maximum number of entrepreneurs that can present.
  • Following the presentation, judges are welcome to ask questions.
  • Businesses must give the presentation live and in person.
  • Visual aids such as photos, renderings, PowerPoint slides, or printed materials are encouraged but not required.

Rubric

Project Impact & Curb Appeal: How significantly will the proposed project improve the building’s exterior appearance? Will the improvements create a more inviting and visually appealing storefront?
Economic & Community Benefit: Will the project help attract customers, increase foot traffic, or support local economic activity? Does the project contribute positively to the surrounding businesses and community?
Project Feasibility & Readiness: Is the project realistic and achievable within the proposed timeline and budget? Has the applicant demonstrated readiness to complete the project if funding is awarded?
Overall Project: Are estimates, planning, and scope clearly defined? Has the applicant demonstrated financial and personal commitment to the project? Is there a clear willingness to invest their own resources alongside grant funding?
Quality of Presentation: Was the presentation clear, organized, and easy to understand? Did the presenter effectively explain the current condition and proposed improvements?
